A note from the President, Stamford Community
These are exciting times for the United Way. Effective July 1, 2007, the United Way of Stamford joined the United Way of Northern Fairfield County and United Way of Housatonic/Shepaug to form the United Way of Western Connecticut, Inc. United Way of Stamford’s most recent board chair, Reyno Giallongo, is the chairman for the new organization’s regional governance board.
The creation of the United Way of Western Connecticut, Inc. will allow us to take a regional approach to important issues and ensure that the needs of our local communities and residents are met with better solutions.
We are not going away, just getting stronger and more efficient. Our goal is to become even more effective in addressing the issues facing our community. We are committed to Stamford and will continue to be a leader in mobilizing our community.
Last fall, we raised more than $2 million during our annual campaign. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we are able to invest $1.6 million in the Stamford community – an 8% increase over last year. The merger will enhance our fundraising and community impact efforts by streamlining administrative operations and making it easier for corporate donors to lend their support. Dollars raised locally will still be invested in programs that address the needs important to the Stamford community.
Our Stamford office will remain at 62 Palmer’s Hill Road and our staff will be able to increase their level of engagement in our community. We anticipate getting bigger and better and we will need the ongoing support of the entire community. Working together, we will improve lives here in Stamford.
Sincerely,
Michelle H. James
President, Stamford Office
