This is the second year for the grant program, a collaborative effort between the city, which provides the funding, and the United Way, which serves as the administrator of the program.

The city determines the funding for each of three core areas -- education, health and income -- while the United Way oversees a citizen volunteer board that decides how the money is distributed.

"I want to thank the United Way for the exceptional work they have done in organizing this decision-making process," said Mayor Mark Boughton. "I also want to thank the 27 volunteers who gave their time and effort to ensure that Danbury agencies receive the funding they need to provide much needed health, education and income services to our residents."

Recepients include the Community Action Committee of Danbury, the Association of Religious Communities, and the Danbury Visiting Nurses Association.
