Letter to the Editor: Encourages Good Habits Toward Better Kids' Health

NEWS-TIMES -- Jun 14 2010 -- The Coalition for Healthy Kids is a three-year, Danbury-based collaborative with members from The Regional YMCA of Western CT, United Way of Western Connecticut, Danbury Hospital, Danbury Public Schools, City of Danbury, Health Department and Parks and Recreation, Danbury Grassroots Tennis, Hispanic Center and the Samaritan Health Center.

The goal of the coalition is to improve the overall health of children ages 3 years to 11 years living in Danbury by creating an environment where children can be more physically active and make healthier food choices.

We support the United Way of Western Connecticut, Strong Heart, Healthy Children campaign to tip the scales back to better health in our communities.

Please join in the effort to combat childhood obesity and spread our message of 5, 2, 1, 0 to families in the community -- 5 fruit and vegetable servings daily; limit TV and media to no more than 2 hours per day; 1 hour of play every day; 0 intake of sugar-containing beverages.

Encourage your children to participate in the 1-mile Kid's Fun Run around Elmwood Park 10 a.m. at the September 11, 2010 "Run for the Children 10K," organized by the Regional YMCA of Western CT and sponsored by Goodrich, Bailey and Beatty Financial Services and Danbury Hospital.
