Quality Child Care
Children learn best in loving, nurturing relationships and through everyday experiences. That hard-wires the brain for future learning, especially in the early years. Whether children are at home, with relatives or friends, or in childcare – the quality of early education is key to later school success. United Way of Western Connecticut is supports multiple programs that improve the quality of childcare and equip parents to make the best choice for their family.
United Way of Western Connecticut and our partners are carrying out the Born Learning public engagement campaign. It helps parents, caregivers and communities support early learning. Public service advertising, a resource-rich Web site (www.bornlearning.org) and educational material (all in English and Spanish) offer fun, concrete ideas to help young children learn.
United Way has been working with child-focused groups and corporations throughout Western Connecticut to make Born Learning materials available to caregivers. In Stamford, Pitney Bowes supports an enhanced Born Learning Campaign, a national initiative through United Way of America to help ensure people in Stamford get the most out of what Born Learning has to offer.
In Northern Fairfield County, United Way has partnered with the Danbury Fair Mall, Babies R Us, and Danbury Children First to make Born Learning material available to parents. And in Southern Litchfield County, New Milford Hospital has been a valued partner with United Way, getting Born Learning materials to caregivers who need them.

Helping the community address early childhood issues in a comprehensive and coordinated manner is an important role for United Way.
