The spirit of volunteerism in our community is stronger than ever. Volunteers are the heart, the strength and the power of our towns.

We want to take this opportunity to thank those of you in our community who were either a first-time or experienced volunteer this past year. Thank you for your time, energy, experience, expertise or financial commitment that helped to make a positive difference in the lives of so many people. All of us at The Volunteer Center look forward to continuing our work with you, as well as with the nonprofit agencies and programs that serve our community.

The Volunteer Center of United Way of Western Connecticut works to strengthen our region by connecting people to volunteer service opportunities and providing resources to nonprofit organizations.  Each year, we recruit thousands of volunteers to give their time and talent to the community and help hundreds of nonprofit agencies fulfill their missions.

In April 2011, The Volunteer Center of Western Connecticut became part of United Way of Western Connecticut.  For nearly 40 years, The Volunteer Center of Western Connecticut had been the leading community volunteer coordinator for Southern Litchfield and Northern Fairfield Counties.

In June 2012, The Volunteer Center of Southwestern Fairfield County merged with the United Way of Western Connecticut.

By combining the resources of both Volunteer Centers under the United Way organizational umbrella, we are able to increase the capacity of the region’s volunteer mobilization efforts.  We also can enhance and expand existing volunteer recruitment, training and placement services, and better match volunteers’ skills to nonprofit organizations’ needs.
