The economic fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic has left many more families in need of food. Many people find themselves suddenly without work, or with reduced work hours. People living paycheck to paycheck have no savings and may not have money to purchase food.
No one should have to struggle to provide a nutritious meal to their family. Here’s how United Way gets fresh, healthy food to struggling people in our communities:
-
Make it easier for people to afford fresh, healthy food at the grocery store through a program called Healthy Savings. For six weeks, beginning March 29, 2020, participants in Healthy Savings will receive $20 in free, fresh produce every week. They will also receive discounts valued at up to $50 per week on pre-qualified healthy food staples.
-
Support the Danbury and Stamford Food Collaboratives, which make fresh food more available to clients at food pantries.
