Ready, Set, Let's Read

Ready. Set, Let's Read! supports preschools serving disadvantaged children in preparing them for kindergarten by placing volunteers in their classrooms each week to read books with the children.

Research shows that children who are not reading at grade level by the end of 3rd grade are four times more likely to drop out of high school. Danbury children on the Free Lunch Program are performing more than 25 percentage points behind their peers on 3rd-Grade Reading CMTS; ELL students are performing 40 percentage points behind their peers.

Simply reading to a child is the best way to prepare them for school. Share your love of reading and help young children develop critical language, literacy and social skills - just one afternoon a week!

Partner preschools include:

  • Cottage Street School, Danbury
  • Head Start, Danbury
  • Interfaith Early Learning Center, Danbury
  • YMCA Children’s Center, Bethel

With more volunteers, we can reach more schools!

We’re looking for caring volunteers who can make a weekly commitment to read books to area preschool classrooms. For more information, or to register for the Volunteer Information Session, email or call (203) 297-6736.
