VITA & MyFreeTaxes

At United Way, we believe in helping families keep their hard-earned dollars during tax season through VITA and MyFreeTaxes.

United Way of Coastal and Western Connecticut helps hardworking families access the tax refunds and credits they are eligible for through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program and the MyFreeTaxes website. This program is run in partnership with the Connecticut Association of Human Services (CAHS) and United Way Worldwide.

VITA services are available for free to households that earned $66,000 or less last year. For VITA services, visit CAHS' website (English or Español) for guidance and to find a VITA site in your city or town. Services are provided in multiple languages. Check back soon for the list of VITA sites in Western Connecticut. Clients provide the necessary paperwork to complete federal and state tax returns. Intuit TurboTax has a helpful checklist of what documents and information you need to file your taxes.

United Way Worldwide provides MyFreeTaxes in partnership with the IRS’s VITA program to help filers prepare their tax returns on their own or to help filers find a VITA site to have their return prepared for them for free. The program is free for anyone to use, regardless of income. To use MyFreeTaxes (English or Español), visit the website and follow the instructions provided.
